Are You a Soda Junkie? Ways of Breaking Your Soda Addiction.
For the past month we at Top Shape have chatted with our community about various addictions and one of the most recurring ones other than smoking has been people who are addicted to soda. Soda addiction seems to have become a new phenomena of addiction. Several of the people we talked to drink more than 3 sodas a day – some even averaged up to a total of 7 daily sodas. Soda has never really seemed like a problem in our society until fairly recently where schools started to ban soda machines. The sweet soft drinks have been introduced to us at an early age as we never saw the harm in what it does to our body.
However, the sugar and the added acids in the soda accelerates our aging process, causes cavities, and also is an added component of the increased national health problem of diabetes. So how can you stop drinking these unhealthy soft drinks? Here are a few alternatives in how to start decreasing your soda intake:
1 Green/Black Tea
Start making a pot of green or black tea – you can even add a little sugar to your tea. The tea you will be making has far less sugar then what your soda would have contained. Add a few ice cubes or put it in the refrigerator and use that as your next soda choice.
2Aqua
You can mint up your water by adding a sprig of mint to your water. Another option is to lemon it up with a slice of lemon – lemon also has a detox effect on your body – which will help you detox away all the sugar from your previous soda habits. The third option is to freshen it up with a slice of cucumber.
3Coffee
Drink some coffee. You can find low-caffeine options or even start to drink decaf coffee instead of having the unhealthy soda drinks. Keep your coffee cup simple & low-calorie by using skim milk.
Instead of substituting your soda cravings to only using one of the suggested options – mix it up. Have a cup of coffee in the morning, start your lunch with a chilled ice tea & end your dinner with some flavored aqua. This way you will not only start working on progressively avoiding drinking soda but you are adding a variety of healthy drink options to your daily beverage intake.
