Healthy Eats – Greek Yoghurt Health Benefits.
If you participate in the Top Shape 30 Challenge you will be receiving a nutrition guide, and one of the components of the nutrition guide is protein. One healthy source of protein is yoghurt. However, we at Top Shape don’t like the regular yoghurt – we like the Mediterranean Greek Yoghurt.
You are probably wondering if there is any difference between the regular yoghurt & the Greek yoghurt, is the Greek yoghurt healthier than the regular yoghurt? The answer is: yes! Here are a few reasons of why you should choose the Greek yoghurt over the regular yoghurt next time you go out on your healthy shopping spree.
1 Double the Amount of Protein
The main competitive edge that the Greek Yoghurt has over the regular yoghurt that it contains a higher source of protein. At the same time it contains less than half of the sugar than the regular yoghurt. A 6 oz serving of Greek Yoghurt will provide you with the protein intake of a 2 to 3 ounce of lean meat.
2 Non-Fat Advantage
Regular Greek Yoghurt with full-fat contains a large amount of saturated fat, which is a disadvantage over the regular yoghurt, which contains less saturated fat. However, if you are switching over to this Mediterranean yoghurt delight, always choose the fat-free or the low-fat yoghurt versions of greek yoghurt.
3 Low Amount of Sodium
The federal government’s dietary guidelines for 2010 urges Americans to cap their sodium intake to 2,300 milligrams per day. As too much sodium increase the risk of heart disease and increase the blood pressure. One serving of Greek Yoghurt contains around 50 milligrams of sodium, which is half of the amount of sodium intake than the regular yoghurt brands.
Keep in mind that if you choose to go for the Greek Yoghurt instead of the regular yoghurt brands – use the non-fat, low-fat and plain versions of the Mediterranean delight.
